Lenten Opportunities

Looking for some ways to grow closer to God this Lent - here are a couple of opportunities in our parish right now!

Men's Lenten Prayer Breakfasts: Come on out men on Saturday mornings during Lent for breakfast at 7:00 a.m. in the Church basement. We will have an informal time of prayer and discussion. The Sunday gospel readings will be the focus. In Hebrews 10:24-25 we are told: "And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near." For more info contact Tony Horinek

Sharing Faith Together: Would you like to do something a little extra for Lent this year? Francis and Geri Landry will be studying the Sunday Mass readings using the "With Jesus to the Cross" study guide on Tuesday nights at 7:00 p.m. at their home. If you are interested in joining the discussion please contact Francis or Geri.

Catholic News

  • In 1973, Mother Canopi, a patristics scholar, established the cloistered Mater Ecclesiae Abbey on Isola San Giulio (San Giulio Island), a small island in Lake Orta (photograph). The monastery grew to over 80 nuns by 1989, leading to the founding of a daughter monastery. In 1993, at Pope St. John Paul II’s invitation, Mother Canopi wrote the meditations for the Good Friday Via Crucis at the Colosseum.

  • “15 vandalism attacks had been registered nationwide during the month [of February], along with 15 robberies, 10 acts of profanation, and one torching incident,” according to another recent report.

  • Archbishop John Wester of Santa Fe described the devotion as “really wrong,” and Bishop Michael Sis of San Angelo (Texas) said the devotion is “spiritually dangerous” and “should be completely avoided. It is a perversion of devotion to the saints.”
