Woo Hoo!!! Here we go! It's going to be a great year!
In PE we will begin playing simple games and activities to assess fundamental locomotor skills. Children will be throwing, catching, and kicking gator balls as well as playing lead-up games to promote awareness of football and volleyball fundamentals.
Have you heard? Along with our physical activities we’ll be learning about good nutrition in our PE classes. September is “Better Breakfast Month”. To celebrate, children are encouraged to bring something to show what they have eaten for breakfast; box tops, granola bar wrappers, pictures from grocery ads. These items will be taped on the proper section of a giant food pyramid on the gym wall. Children are encouraged to eat a nutritious breakfast so hopefully they will continue to eat breakfast throughout the year.
In the months ahead we will take a closer look at the food pyramid by individualizing food groups. We will compare portion sizes and learn to track what we have eaten. Parents can visit mypyramid.gov with their children to learn “more steps for a healthier you”!
The children have all grown at least 2 inches taller over the summer break! There is much to be said for sunshine, fresh air, and outdoor play! We will provide fun, outdoor play in PE as long as the weather cooperates. Please make sure your child wears comfortable shoes and clothes. Children feel more assertive and self-confident when they are able to move without restrictions.
I want children to FEEL FREE TO MOVE! |
